El Salvador’s 20th Century History Through the Lens of My Family Experience

El Salvador’s 20th century history is marked by political and economic instability that culminated in a devastating civil war in the 1980s. This war led to ongoing issues such as gang violence, widespread poverty, and significant immigration to the United States. In order to understand El Salvador's current situation, it's important to delve into the history that has led to the country's ongoing struggles. As a person whose family immigrated to the United States, I've observed the negative perceptions surrounding Salvadoran immigrants.

In my thesis, I aimed to raise awareness about the complex history of El Salvador by examining my family's experiences throughout the 20th century. I conducted extensive research by utilizing library resources, watching documentaries, and attending lectures. My focus was on the social and economic conditions and the events that led to the Civil War. Additionally, I conducted interviews with various family members to gather their personal accounts of these events, specifically highlighting their impact on our family. I also developed a website featuring a detailed timeline showcasing the important dates that have contributed to shaping El Salvador's current state, and demonstrating how the Chorro family narrative aligns with the broader historical context.
